Jana Vavřínková - Viola


    Czech born, Jana Vavřínková studied viola at the conservatoire of Česke Budejovice, Czech Republic under Larisa Koltsova and Vladimir Bondarenko. Following the completion of her studies there in 2001, Jana has continued to study at the Institute of Art Studies at the University of Ostrava, Czech Republic under the guidance of Pavel Vitek. In addition to this Jana has taken part in international master classes with Jan Talich and Yuri Bashmet amongst others.
    Jana has been awarded prizes and honours for her playing from the Czech Republic and further a field. In 1999 she won the First Prize of the Conservatoire Competition in the Czech Republic and in 2001 she was awarded the First Prize of the Young Talent Competition held by South Bohemia Philharmonic Orchestra. In 2001 she was awarded Talent of the Year Prize by city of České Budějovice.
    Jana has had solo performances with a variety of orchestras and with repertoire ranging from Mozart to Martinu. She also regularly appears on Czech Radio and Television. As well as a busy solo and chamber career, Jana is currently Principal Viola of the Berg Chamber Orchestra and the Roxy Ensemble. Within this area of her creative output Jana has had many solo performances both in the Czech Republic and abroad. Since 2004 she has taught viola and violin at the School of Music at Cernosice and the New York University in Prague.
    She also engages herself in the interpretation of early music and in historical dance, in particular Baroque dance, already for several years, led by choreographer and dancer Hana Slačálková.
